Kevin Costner speelt in deze bloedstollende thriller een alleenstaande vader van twee kinderen die verhuist naar een afgelegen landhuis. De succesvolle uitgever Will Atenton (Daniel Craig) zegt zijn baan in New York op om een rustiger leven te kunnen leiden met zijn vrouw Libby (Rachel Weisz) en kinderen. Vol mooie plannen verhuist het gezin naar een rustige stad. Al snel blijkt het nieuwe huis het plaats delict te zijn van een moord op de vorige bewoners.
