Beschrijving

Rail Away is een fascinerende serie over markante spoorlijnen overal ter wereld. Elke aflevering is een onderneming waarbij een traject langs een aantal bijzondere locaties wordt afgelegd, met de trein als leidraad. daarnaast is er ruim aandacht voor spoorbouw, treinen, landschappen en culturen.

Zwitserland Traject: Rhätische Bahn deel 1.
Het verhaal van een Hollandse bankier, grondlegger van de Rhätische Bahn, een smalspoorlijn in het kanton Graubünden in Oost-Zwitserland. Eén van de lijnen loopt van Chur via Davos naar Italië, met een tussenstop in Tirano.

Zwitserland Traject: Rhätische Bahn deel 2.
Als vervolg wordt o.a. de Arosa Bahn gevolgd. Interessant is het beroemde traject langs en in de bedding van de Rijn, ook wel de Zwitserse Gran Canyon genoemd, uit 1903. Opvallend is de Vereinatunnel, de langste smalspoortunnel.

Zwitserland Traject: Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon.
Het verhaal van één van de Noordzuidspoorverbindingen door de Zwitserse Alpen van Bern naar Italië. De bouw van de spoorlijn door smalle dalen en hoge bergen, soms door kilometerslange tunnels zoals de Lötschberg- en Simplontunnel.
