Eerst is Bond allesbehalve enthousiast als een bloedmooie medewerkster van het Britse ministerie van Financiën, Vesper Lynd (Eva Green), aangesteld wordt om zijn inzet voor het pokerspel af te leveren en over het geld van de overheid te waken. Maar terwijl Bond en Vesper een serie aanvallen van Le Chiffre en zijn handlangers overleven, groeit er een wederzijdse aantrekkingskracht tussen hen die het paar in nog gevaarlijkere situaties zal doen belanden… en Bonds leven voor altijd zal veranderen.
